HER KIND OF CRAZY by NINA LEVINE 

I instinctively reach out to grab something to hold on to in an effort to halt my fall. Silly really, because I'm stepping out of the taxi right in front of the hotel lobby doors and there is nothing to grab hold of.

Well, generally there's not.

Today, however, there is.

"I've got you," a man says as his hands slide under my arms and he stops my collapse.

This all happens in a blur, but at the sound of his deep voice, my head snaps up so I can look at him.

Oh. My.

Mesmerising blue eyes capture mine for a moment before I drop my gaze to appreciate his sexy, bearded smile. In my experience, those kinds of lips promise many things that a girl like me doesn't have the time for. I'm all for fun sexy times, but it's the heartbreak a man like him promises that I don't have the time for.

Lips don't lie.

Neither do tattoos, and as my attention diverts from his lips to his neck and down to his arms, I see tattoo after tattoo.

Uh-uh.

Tattoos and I do not go together.

I gather myself and look back up into his eyes. Steadying myself, I move out of his hold and say, "Thank you."

He's stopped smiling, but his lips twitch and his eyes twinkle. "You're welcome."

I narrow my gaze on him. Why is he looking at me like that? Like I amuse him. "Are you laughing at me?"

He continues to watch me with that same lip-twitching gaze. "Do I look like I'm laughing?"

Gripping my bags tighter, I square my shoulders. "No, but there's something going on in your mind and I'm sure it's some kind of laughter at my expense."

He runs his fingers through his brown hair. He's got one of those haircuts where it's really short on the sides and the rest is styled into that sexy, tousled look—the kind of look that makes my belly flutter. His voice distracts me from thinking about his hair when he replies, "Let's just say I'm amused when a woman, who is clearly attracted to me, flinches at my tattoos. They're just ink on skin; they don't tell you about the kind of man I am underneath all that art."

"I'm not attracted to you," I snap.

I'm not.

Really.

His brows rise. "No? Could've fooled me."

Pursing her lips, her face gets serious again. “I don’t think you should get involved. “You involved me when you asked for help. It’s too late anyway. I’m already in.” “Shit,” she mumbles. Leaning forward in my seat, I rest my elbows on my knees and focus on her face to keep her attention. “I have an intro to Creed tonight. If this goes well, I could have a job. If it doesn’t go well, we will rethink the plan.” Now she looks completely defeated and we’ve only just started. “I don’t have a plan, Max,” she states, standing and putting her hand to her forehead. “What I have is a niece who needs my help, law enforcement in this shit of a town that refuses to acknowledge what’s happening in it, and the only person I think I can count on is meeting with the man who’s to blame for all of it.” “I don’t think Hoss is the biggest problem,” I inform. “If rumor is true, there’s someone else leading this, and that someone is big. Hoss is no one in comparison to who we’re really talking about.” 

VIDA'S REVIEW

This is a gritty, dark and suspenseful read that will leave you begging for more. Max is what I like to call a nomad he calls no MC his home. He's in his hometown where tragedy struck and made him leave but now that he's back he ready to get down to business. That being, seeing what Emma wants. Emma was the kid sister of a girl he use to date but secretly he always wanted Emma he just never thought that he was good enough. Em as he likes to call her needs help trying to rescue her niece from Satan's Creed MC where she is being held in deplorable conditions. Max calls on some friends (who I can't wait to learn more about) to help him rescue a precious young girl who he affectionately calls "Monkey". A.C Bextor has a way  in this book of pushing reader's limits, forcing them to see the dirty side of a MC while dangling them from the side, and just leaving you emotionally spent and highly heated as you wonder just WTF will happen next. This story will open your eyes and your heart to so many possibilities and hope that make you believe that even in your darkest days there's always light at the end of the tunnel.

Her eyes stay trained on mine. An unreadable expression would be easier to accept. Instead, her face falls with sadness and despair. I don’t know her, but what I see in the depths of her eyes is an obvious sign of a life of loneliness and neglect. She’s definitely the girl in the picture, though. I’m certain. Her dark eyes can’t be mistaken for any other child’s. The almond shapes of them are as defined now as they were back then. Smiling gently, I tell her, “If you don’t give me a name, I’m goin’ to have to keep callin’ you ‘monkey’. You gonna let me do that?” A shy smile crosses her lips, and I hear a heavy breath in relief. She still doesn’t answer. “All right,” I sigh as I stand. My hand reaches out to the top of her head and I move to lay my palm on top of it, which she may allow but Cilas does not. I feel his fingers dig in to my arm and Casey’s body jerks in place as she watches with wide eyes. Lifting my hands in surrender, I placate Cilas without words and take a step back from a now-terrified little girl. “Maybe you’ll tell me next time,” I supply and watch her visibly relax.
