synopsis

Two natural enemies. One impossible love...

Detective Lily Morgan's never been one to let things lie. When a key witness in one of her cases is killed, Lily's determined to go as deep as necessary to find the truth - even if she has to go undercover into London's illegal underground fighting scene. Ever since she gave up a comfortable life in academia to become a detective, Lily's been all about the job - no regrets, no mercy. But solving this case needs something murkier, something far more personal... something like the shadowy spark flickering into life between her and bare-knuckle fighter Callum. And Lily's beginning to realize just how badly she might need it, too...
Callum Cross depends on nobody, at any cost. When you live your whole life in the naked lights of underground boxing rings, you learn to take work and pleasure where you can find them, not to look too closely at the shadows in the corners... and you also learn not to spend too much time near firebrands like Lily Morgan, especially when the darkness hides your own dark secrets. But Lily's also the only hint of a better world that Callum's seen in as long as he can remember. And when you swim deep enough, any glimmer at all starts to look like the way back up... Caught between sudden desire, lethal enemies, and their own conflicting agendas, Lily and Callum might be each others' last, best hope at finally finding the missing pieces of their hearts... or just enough weight to finally drown together. And with the jaws of the case slowly closing around them, there's no telling who will be caught in its teeth...

Author's Note: This is a full-length, standalone novel. It includes strong language and sexual content and is intended for readers over the age of 18.

Excerpt:

CHAPTER ONE

“Sorry, but sucking off a narcissistic asshole who’s so damn drunk he can’t recall the words to his own song is not my idea of a good time.”
His bark of laughter echoed in the empty hall. “You really are a ray of sunshine, aren’t you?”
God, what a terrible idea this had been. Hoping to put some distance between them, Emma Travers quickened her pace, only to stumble over the uncustomary height of the heels her best friend Alison had convinced her to wear. Her ankle screamed in protest, forcing her to skid to a halt. Balancing precariously so she didn’t face plant on the concrete, she struggled against the zippers, finally succeeding in pulling the rhinestone studded stilettos from her swollen feet. She barely resisted the urge to turn around and throw them at the head of the man who’d pissed her off faster than a Bugatti Veyron went from zero to sixty, and instead tossed them aside and continued her escape in bare feet.
“Come back and see me sometime, Emma,” Joe Campbell, lead singer of the British alternative metal band Blind Man's Alibi, called out to her.
Fat chance!
“I could use a bit of sunshine in my life.” The murmur hit her ears like a shout, and stopped her in her tracks.
Well, shit.
Emma remained rooted in place, unable to decide if he was for real or filling her with pretty words in order to get her to stay and sleep with him. He sounded sincere enough, but the only way to know for certain was to face him. Something she really didn’t want to do.
Not that he was painful to look at. Oh no, Joe Campbell was extremely pleasing to the eye, a fact he knew too well. One, she was certain, he used to his advantage whenever an occasion presented itself. Like tonight, when she’d gone against character and accepted his invitation backstage after the show.
One glimpse of the man who stood alone in the room she’d been unceremoniously delivered to and Emma went hot all over. Unable to speak, she’d allowed her gaze to take a long, slow journey over his body. His torso was bare, giving her an unobstructed view of hardened pecs, a flat washboard stomach and muscles that rippled and shifted, making the Chinese dragon wrapped around his left upper arm and onto his chest seem alive as he slipped his left hand into the front pocket of his jeans. Dear God, those jeans! The way they hung on his lean hips, the top button undone like he’d just pulled them on. They rode so low there was no mistaking that underneath them he was commando. Her gaze had locked on the obvious bulge behind his fly and, for a moment, she’d actually considered dropping to her knees before him and taking a taste.
Then he’d opened his mouth. What was that saying? Elvis has left the building. She was outta there.
With a deep breath for courage, Emma turned around and was greeted by the same image of the man as before. Except that the whiskey bottle he’d held in his right hand and lifted to those delectable lips too many times to count, was nowhere to be seen. Oh great, and the hulking brute who’d brought her backstage stood leaning against the wall to Joe’s right.
Gary, she was pretty certain he’d introduced himself as Gary, held his arms crossed before him, head tipped toward the floor in a pseudo relaxed pose designed to give the impression he hadn’t just heard every damn word they’d said. He blew the image to shit when he lifted his head and winked at her. Winked! Was everyone in the music industry completely bonkers?
Emma did her best to ignore the brute and focused on the singer. “You’re a real piece of work, you know that?”
“What did you expect?”
Good question.
“I guess I hoped the stage show was just that, a show, and that there was a decent guy behind all of that. Maybe I wanted to believe the ‘I’m too sexy for my own good’ attitude was just publicity.”
“Sorry to disappoint.” His tone didn’t sound regretful at all. He strode toward her, moved with such a fluid grace Emma’s heart thumped in response. His long legs closed the distance in half the time it had taken her to get this far. She made herself stand her ground as he stepped in close, closer than she’d yet allowed him to get. Close enough she caught the subtle hint of soap on his skin and whiskey on his breath.  “You’re right about one thing, I’m an asshole. But it wasn’t the alcohol that caused me to lose my words tonight, Emma Travers. It was you.”
His chin-length brown hair was nearly dry now and hung over his eyes as if windblown, though nary a wisp of air blew from the vents above. Eyes she was surprised to learn were two different colors—one brown, the other a mix of brown and green. “You excel at telling a girl what she wants to hear, I’ll give you that.”
His gaze didn’t flinch. “How can you doubt the truth? You were there, front row center. Close enough to touch me.” The soft timbre of his voice warmed her even more than the heat radiating off his skin. He fell silent, unmoving, as if he were waiting for something. What, she wasn’t certain. Unable to meet his gaze, she lowered hers and found herself transfixed by the movement of his Adam’s apple as he spoke. “All you had to do was reach out.”
An image of hands pawing and clutching at him whenever he’d trekked too close to the edge of the stage flashed through her mind. She swallowed hard, her mouth going dry, and shook her head. “Is that what you wanted me to do? Grope you like the other women in the audience? Do you actually enjoy that?”
“Not particularly.”
“Yet you expect me to believe that, for some unknown reason, you wanted me to touch you?”
“You stood out from the crowd. Not singing, not screaming, just standing in the front row. It was impossible not to notice you. I wondered why you were at the show, You didn’t seem to be having a good time. Then you smiled at me…my mind blanked.”
What the hell was she supposed to say to that? Thanks for noticing me?
“I was feeding you lines and you just stood there, staring.” Much the same way as she was doing now. Christ, he was beautiful. Her fingers itched with the need to trace his lips, his mustache, the little hairless spots on the outside of his bottom lip and that sexy as hell strip of facial hair that went from the center of his full lower lip down, to blend into his short trimmed beard.
Her throat went dry as dust. “Why me? I’m not actually supposed to believe you saw me and lost your place, am I?”
“That’s what happened.” His words were matter-of-fact, meant to be believed. “You know it’s true, you were there.”
Emma shook her head.
“Contrary to what you think, I was not too drunk to remember the lyrics. You see, I’m an accomplished drinker. I’ve been at it a long time. Long enough to know that forgetting the words to one of my songs is about as never-going-to-happen as forgetting how to please a woman.”
“Why?”
“Why what, Sunshine?”
“Why are you a practiced drunk? Is that all you do, spend your free time partying?”
“Interesting. You don’t question my forgetting how to please a woman?”

“Hah! You could probably pull that off if you were comatose.”

One intense biker romance.

REIGN IS NOW AVAILABLE

Barnes & Noble: http://bit.ly/1PW98BW

Blurb

As the president of the Sin City Outlaw Motorcycle Club, l fuck as hard as I ride and rarely go to bed alone.
The women are fast and the violence is intense.
I excel in both.
People either respect me or fear me. I'm not arrogant. It’s just the truth.
I was a king, reigning over Vegas without complication, until one gorgeous sheriff made everything fall apart.
When I saw her, I became a Neanderthal, wanting nothing more than to be between those legs.
I guess that’s where I went wrong, because my reality was shot to hell real
fucking fast.
One kiss caused her to step over that blue line.
One night in her bed made me a traitor.
And now… we’re both screwed.

EXCERPT

“Really? You got me donuts?” I arch a brow, dropping the lid.
He turns, a mischievous smile fitting his face.
“Don’t all cops like donuts?” he jeers. I roll my eyes, placing my hand on my hip.
“That’s so stereotypical,” I huff.
“Oh, really?” he replies, grabbing the box off the table, a smug smile still on his face.
“I’ll get rid of them then.”
“No, wait!” I nearly trip over my feet trying to grab the box of donuts. He holds them higher than me and smiles so big I think I see two dimples. Really, he’s pulling the notorious bully move holding them just above my reach? Why am I attracted to him again?
“I thought you didn’t like them,” he taunts.
“I do like them. A lot, actually.” I cross my arms, my cheeks flushing. My dad used to always take me to the local bakery to get donuts on the weekends. I would get whatever I wanted—usually anything with sprinkles—and we would drop the rest off at the department. What can I say, embrace your stereotypes.
“So, it’s true. Cops love donuts,” he states arrogantly, sitting the box back down.

Neglected, abandoned by a heroin-addicted mother, and placed in foster care at ten, Enzo Jordan has learned one thing…love hurts. Aibhlinn Leahy has been in love with her best friend for years. The Irish-born comic book artist has poured time, energy, and love into the wounded man. His choice to walk away breaks her heart but frees her to explore a new future.
Life is a cruel and amazing thing. An abandoned baby brings the two back together, and they’re forced to examine the love that has long existed between them. This is a story of pain, scars, and fear. We all have demons to battle. The real decision is who's in control…us or them?

Aibhlinn nodded, and they walked outside to the back. Enzo softly closed the door behind them and she spun, instantly on the attack.
“That’s how you see us? That’s our end game? You walking away? I’m so easy to leave behind?”
“No,” he held out his hands, palms up. “That’s not what the painting says.”
“Then please explain.”
“It’s what has to happen to keep me from hurting you.”
“Am I not hurting now, Enzo?” She seethed.
“Not like you could be,” he whispered.
“You fucking coward,” She said stalking forward to stand inches from his face. “If you don’t want me, can’t love me, tell me that.”
“It’s never been a question of love. God, Aibhlinn you must know I’m in love with you.”
His words stole the breath from her lungs. She blinked and swayed.
“Whoa,” he wrapped his arms around her, and she leaned against his chest.
“What did you just say?” She croaked.
“I love you. I’m in love with you. I have been for years. I tried so hard to keep it to myself, so I didn’t ruin what we have.”
She couldn’t stop the tears that fell from her eyes. “Why wouldn’t’ you say something before now?”
“Because it doesn’t matter, Aibhlinn,” he whispered.
“What?” She pulled away. “It’s everything.”
“No.” He ran his fingers through her hair, bringing his fingers to her scalp where he began a massage. She shivered. “I wish it did. You’re beautiful. I always wanted to touch you like this.”
“Then touch me,” She whispered.
“Just this once, Aib,” he whispered moving in to brush her lips with his. Tendrils of pleasure burst through her body like fireworks. They both moaned as their mouths were fused. They’d given in to hunger long denied. Teeth knocked, tongues clashed. She savored every moment. He cupped her ass, and she moaned, pressing closer against him. “So sweet,” he whispered.
She slow-blinked as the world changed its perspective. He lifted her up and out of instinct, she wrapped her limbs around him. He pressed her against the wall, and they continued to eat at each other’s mouths. It was heaven. Everything she’d dreamed of and more. The boy who’d kissed her had become a man and skilled with his tongue. He rolled his hips, and she whimpered. He’s good with other things too. The friction of his jeans against her soaked underwear had her moving with him. Heat flooded her face and collar bones. Her head spun.
“That’s it let it go for me, baby,” he whispered. His words thrust her over the edge, she arched her back and cried out. He swallowed her noises, keeping the passionate exchange a secret between them. Shaking she clung to him as he eased her legs to the ground and buried his face into her neck. “Never doubt I love you, Aibhlinn. I just don’t know how to be in a relationship. They scare the hell out of me. What we have is the closest I’ve ever come to commitment. The thought of fucking up and breaking your heart has haunted me for years.” He placed a kiss to her temple.
“Then let me teach you. We’ve helped each other through everything. Why is this any different?”
“I’ve battled this demon for so long its hooks are embedded into my soul. Not even you can loose those chains.”
“Don’t you see we’re doing everything but having sex and putting a title to us? I love you Enzo. I’d do anything for you. Hell, I have been your ride or die so long I got a list of infractions to prove it. I want to help you. I know we could be good together. I want it so bad I can fucking taste it. But I can’t continue with the dysfunction. If we can’t go all in we, need to place boundaries and keep to them, ‘cause this thing between us is killing me, and making it damn hard to find anyone else.”
He closed his eyes and rested his forehead against hers. Deja vu struck. Her heart broke. It was so much worse knowing he felt the same why.
“You son of a bitch. Why even tell me how you felt if you knew you were going to do this?”
“What do you want me to do, Aib,” he cried out brokenly.
“Stop fighting it,” she said through her gritted teeth. Her hand reached down to cup the bulge in his pants. “Feel with me. Don’t manipulate my body, open up your soul and let me in. I’m already there Enzo. I’m under your skin. I’m in your brain. I know you better than you know yourself.”
His muscles tensed, and his breathing increased. “For once, trust in us.”
“I-
She massaged him, and he rocked into her hands. “Let me take the wheel.” Leaning in she nipped at his neck, emboldened by the cover of darkness and privacy of the small parking lot. His body shook. She slipped her hand into his pants, and they both moaned. He was hot, thick, and long in her hands. She gripped him tightly and pumped.
“Aibhlinn.”
“You gave this to me, now. I’m returning the favor. Tonight after the show where they may. But right now is our time.” She captured his lips, taking what she wanted for so long. He tasted crisp and clean like mint. His lips were soft and pliable. His moaned vibrated through her body. He sucked her tongue, and she whimpered, picking up speed as she brought him over. She swallowed his cries as he spilled onto her hand. The hot liquid felt like a cleansing rain. She removed her hand and brought it to her lips lapping off his salty flavor.
“Jesus, baby. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve dreamed of you like this,” he panted.
She was afraid to hope for more, but for now,, at least, she knew the taste and feel of him. The way his eyes turned into a stormy gray when he came. She leaned in, nipped his bottom lip hard and drug her tongue across it to soothe the abused area. “Hope you don’t mind going commando.”
“Worth it,” he croaked. His eyes grew serious. “Aibhlinn.”
