SPOTLIGHT REVIEW + AUDIO EXCERPT ~ KISSING MAGIC BY DAY LEITAO

Audiobook Blog Tour: Kissing Magic by Day Leitao

Author: Day Leitao

Narrator: Winona Owen

Length: 12 hours and 22 minutes

Series: Portals to Whyland, Book 2

Publisher: Sparkly Wave

Released: Jun. 14, 2019

Genre: Young Adult Fantasy

Kiss him. Don't fall in love. Break a spell with a kiss. Karina has heard and seen enough weird stuff for this request to sound legit. At 16, Karina has a shot at adventure--and an odd first kiss - when she's called to Whyland, a kingdom in another dimension, to save a guy she barely knows. Why her? No clue, but she's happy to help, and kissing Sian isn't torture, even if he isn't to be trusted. Karina's smart enough not to fall in love - or at least to tell herself not to. Once in Whyland, she realizes that risking a broken heart is the smallest of her problems. When truths are unraveled, Karina will need to stand between an ancient darkness and the kingdom. But what hope does she have against mysterious powers when she can't even control her own heart? If you like fantasy and adventure with a dash of romance, give Kissing Magic a try. This novel is recommended for listeners 13 and older. This is book two in Portals to Whyland series but you can jump straight into it without listening to book one.

First and foremost, I truly enjoyed listening to this book. Winona Owen did an amazing job narrating Kissing Magic. She did a great job portraying the emotions of the characters. I definitely felt their highs and lows. It was also very easy to distinguish which character was which from the tone of voice she used. I can’t remember ever getting bored or distracted, aside from my kids wanting food. I will definitely listen to more books narrated by Winona.

I have been obsessed with audiobooks since about 2014 when I didn’t have enough time to sit down to read and preferred still being able to read on the go. Believe me neither of us want to count the number of books I’ve listened to. Lately I am in love with all things paranormal and fantasy-based romance.  Kissing Magic was exactly the next book I needed as I’ve run a bit dry on magical books to read.

Now about the book! I fell in love with Karina and Sian from the beginning. Throughout the story the struggle was real to decide who I loved the most. Without going into detail, just when you think you understand everything the plot thickens. Karina has a few different personalities depending on what is going on with her, like many females. It did drive me a little nuts when I just wanted her to use her brain a bit more. She has an innocence about her and that’s probably the part that got to me, but at times she did display strength and growth.

Sian on the other hand keeps you guessing all the way to the end. Believe me definitely never a dull moment with him. He is a jerk at times and yet one of the most devoted guys as well. Unfortunately, at times that devotion gets him into trouble. He is definitely a character that will keep you on your toes. Much like with Karina, I wish he used that brain he has a bit more. I wanted to jump into the book and knock some sense into both of them.

Overall, the supporting characters were portrayed perfectly as well. There is a lot of back story that is discovered with Kayla as well. Not exactly my favorite part. I think she is the most stubborn person in this book. Thankfully Darian is the perfect match to balance her. The story will certainly keep you engaged and experience this crazy adventure with each character.

I would definitely recommend this audiobook to anyone that loves books involving magic and fantasy. The production of the book was great and Winona definitely did the narration justice. Day Leitao did a great job with the story. I’m not happy I have to wait for another book.  I totally hate cliff hangers and this one was a whopper of a cliff hanger. I am glad I had the chance to experience the adventure I experienced while listening this book.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Day Leitao. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

"Do NOT leave this room, Phee. I swear to fuck if you try to run I will find you and compel you into submission once and for all. WATCH her! Do not let her leave this room!" He growls out through clenched teeth before turning and walking out. The guard takes position in front of the door giving me a hard look. I almost laugh, if there's one thing I can do is distract guards. I walk up to him smiling.

"You're not going to keep me locked up are you?" I question as I run my finger down the front of his shirt. His eyes go wide in panic before narrowing into a glare, damn; this is going to take some effort. I trail my finger lower over his belt buckle.

"Enough." He demands grabbing my wrist, I smile up at him, and I watch him watch my tongue as it slowly moves over my lips. He loosens his grip on my wrist and a hint of a smile plays on his face. Men are so easy. He backs me up into Marcus' desk. I reach back and pick up the first heavy thing I can get my hand on, bashing it into the side of his face. He slumps to the ground. I place the now bloody paper weight back on Marcus' desk. Grabbing my bag, I open the door, peeking into the hall. I see another guard posted at each end of the hall. No way am I getting out this way. I close the door and press against the window. It's at least a fifty foot drop to the ocean below. I don't give myself time to think about it I throw a chair at the window and launch myself into the air, dropping like a rock into the cold ocean water.

Synopsis

When the woman you love is lost, how hard will you fight to get her back?

Following the birth of her daughter, Kadence Knight finds herself in a battle she never prepared for. With desperation and unhappiness threatening to overwhelm her, a sense of hopelessness pulls her away from the one thing she has always longed for: a family.

As Nix watches his wife struggle with something he doesn't understand, he can't help but feel disconnected to his woman. The Kadence he once knew has drifted into the darkness. In her place is a shadow of the woman she once was, one who is fearful of the impossible...failing their daughter.

This Valentine’s Day, Nix has one goal — to reclaim the woman who gave him everything.

*Please note this is a novella and features the characters from the previous storyline.
The events of Reclaimed take place after Incandescent and Affliction. Book one and two in the Knights Rebels MC.
To get the full advantage of the story, and character development, I strongly suggest you read in order.

Excerpt

“I don’t know what you want from me,” I whisper. Communication was never this hard. The distance growing further between us as each day passes makes me afraid that this is what we’ve become. “I just want to bring you happiness, baby,” he sighs, but before I can tell him I don’t think he can, Harlow’s cries come through the monitor. I move off the bed to go to her, knowing she will need to be fed. “You walk out of this room, Kadence, you walk out on me.” His cold tone stops me from moving any further. It’s the same tone he used in the bathroom. “Leave her,” he commands, but the thought of continuing this conversation, where we tear each other down, has me fighting him. “Nix, I have to check on her.” I continue to the door. “Don’t you dare leave this fuckin’ room. I’m important too. I’m your fuckin’ husband. Do you hear me? We are important.” His hand sweeps across his nightstand, causing one big crash that sends everything tumbling to the floor. I’m frozen in place, my hand resting on the door handle. The room is silent. The shock of what has gone on tonight so raw I don’t think either of us knows how to process it. “I don’t know what you want from me,” I repeat, closing my eyes when Harlow’s cries grow louder, sending my anxiety rising. Doesn’t he know he’s only making it worse? “Jesus, I don’t know. Give me a look, smile at me…fuckin’ touch me. Give me a connection that says we’re on the same fuckin’ side. I can’t continue to stay in this place we are in. I’m drowning here, Kadence. We both are, and I just don’t know if I can keep treading water for both of us. You have to help me, baby. You have to want us to survive.” He falls to the bed, his head dropping to his hands. Seeing him like this, in this state makes me realize that our situation is bigger than me, than him. It’s bigger than either one of us realize. “That’s not fair.” I release the handle and turn, collapsing against the wall. The wind knocks out of me as his words resonate within me. We are drowning and I have to stop fighting. At this realization, my knees become weak. Standing becomes too hard. I slide down the wall, dropping my ass to the carpet. “Life isn’t fair, Kadence. I wish it was, but it just isn’t. Look where we both have come from; look where life has taken us. We won’t survive if you won’t talk to me, Kadence. Talk to someone.” He stands to come to me, but having him in my space only makes things worse. “Please don’t.” I draw in a breath, defeated. His frustration and concerns only prove what a bad mother I’ve been, what a bad wife I’ve become. “Don’t what, Kadence? Don’t make me walk away. I want my wife back. I don’t know what’s happened, but I don’t like who you’ve become.” His voice is pained, as broken as my soul feels. His confession doesn’t surprise me, but it still burns. I know I don’t like who I’ve become. How do I expect Nix to like me? “You don’t think I ask myself that question every day? That I don’t look at myself and ask what is wrong with me? I don’t know who I’ve become, Nix. All I know is I should. I should know who I am.” My head thuds against the wall in defeat. I can’t keep going on like this. I can hear Harlow’s cries quietening, as she resettles herself, but that doesn’t stop me from wanting out of this room. “I know who you are, Kadence. You’re the woman I love. The most amazin’ mother to our daughter, our son.” Saying Z is my son pulls at me harder. The fact that he, too, is affected by what is happening hurts even more. Nix walks over and squats to my level, careful not to get into my space, but close enough for me to reach out and touch him if I wanted to. “Why don’t I know that? I should know that Nix.” “You don’t have to know. I know, the kids know and that’s enough.” “It’s not enough for me.” My hand itches to touch him, to feel his hardness under my fingers, but sitting broken on the floor of our bedroom, I know I can’t. I can’t touch the man who means everything to me and I hate myself for it. “When did you stop trustin’ yourself?” “I don’t know. When did I stop being myself?” I counter, and my admission halts him for a moment. He crawls forward, coming closer into my space. His warmth, his calming presence wraps itself all over me. “The first step is askin’ for help, baby. Let me help you. You don’t have to be alone. Let me learn to breathe the ugliness you see. Let me share the darkness, Kadence. Just don’t push me away.” His pleading pulls at me, pulls at the hatred that has settled inside. “I’m not doing good, Nix,” I say, looking up and giving him what he needs. What I need. “Somewhere along the way, I woke completely lost and overwhelmed. And every day, it gets harder and harder to deal.” A sob tears from deep within me, and walls I’ve been hiding behind crumble down. “I know, baby.” He pulls me into the hardness of his chest. “We’re gonna be okay,” he promises, and everything in me wants to believe him. Everything in me wants to trust he has me. That he has us. But the truth is, I’ve drowned in so much self-doubt and uneasiness, that trust seems so far away.

Vida's Review

What can I say about this book that will probably not be said...."Nothing". This book absolutely gutted me and in a good way. I feel as if it swallowed me whole and spit me back up in pieces. I knew from Incandescent that River was a talented author and Affliction was just a reminder of why we fell in love with her writing but in Reclaimed she took it to a whole other level.

Nix and Kadence have just had a baby named Harlow (Low) for short and after giving birth Kadence spirals into this black whole of depression where she can't seem to escape from she sums it up best when she says "Somewhere along the way, I woke completely lost and overwhelmed. And everyday, it gets harder and harder to deal with." Scary to know that what should have been a glorious feeling can also make feel perfectly imperfect. Nix being the mouth watering alpha male that he is does what he can to bring back the woman he fell in love with but you can see that this depression is also taking a toll on him when he says "I'm drowning here, Kadence, we both are, and I just don't know if I can keep treading water for the both of us." To be honest, there was a point in the story where I couldn't see a happy ending in sight. It broke my heart, with each page turned that these two couldn't find their way back to each other. Nix is a alpha male through and through but the way he loves his woman is all consuming, he pushes and he pushes to get her to accept that something is wrong and to get the help that she so desperately needs. Once she gets help things start to look except when it comes to sex which this couples always had in spades. Kadence who felt that Nix wouldn't see her the same since having the baby got advice from her best friend Holly who said it best "I've watched Nix bring you to your highest, hold you in your darkness, save you from your lowest and he has never faltered. Your man worship's you." Nix believing that the problem is him takes the advice from the men in the club which lands him in the ER, it is so hilarious. This novella was a great addition to the Knights Rebels MC and once again River gave us a amazing, unforgettable, and emotional read that these characters, Nix especially, are near and dear to my heart, and I am so incredibly touched and ecstatic that she has shared them with the world.

Series Reading Order

Incandescent
(Knights Rebels MC #1)

Phoenix ‘Nix’ Knight thought pulling his club out of the illegal shit his Pops got them into was difficult.
Until he meets Kadence.
Kadence Turner has no business lusting over a student’s father, especially the president of the Knights Rebels MC. Nix is crass, obnoxious and dangerously sexy and for some reason, Kadence can’t seem to hate him for it. The bossy biker breaks down her defenses, but unlike the old Kadence, the woman she is today won’t give in without a fight.
The tension is undeniable, the attraction fierce. A man that wants what he wants and a woman that will fight him every step of the way.

RELEASE BLITZ~~THE RETURN BY JENNIFER ARMENTROUT

The Return Release Week Blitz banner

We have been dying to bring you the Release Blitz for Jennifer L. Armentrout's THE RETURN! THE RETURN is a New Adult Paranormal Romance and is a part of Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Titan Series. Seth is looking to be just as dangerously delicious as we all hoped!!

The Return - Cover

Amazon | Barnes and Noble | iBooks | Booksamillion

THE RETURN Excerpt:

I was a half-blood, but I was also the Apollyon, a child of a pure and a half, a union that had been forbidden for thousands of years because an Apollyon was more powerful than any pure or half could ever hope to be. And I always got to the traitors’ hideouts before they did, so the Sentinels were usually left with the cleanup, which I was sure absolutely thrilled them. The first to enter was a female half-blood dressed just as I was. Her black hair was pulled back in a neat little knot at the top of her head. She was older, probably in her mid-thirties. It was pretty rare for a Sentinel to live that long. Her dark skin paled as she stopped just inside the entrance. She clenched titanium daggers in her hands like she expected something vicious to pop out from under the bloody mess. The female Sentinel tipped her chin up, and the overhead light sliced across her broad cheekbones. She bore a jagged scar under her right eye, the skin lighter in tone. She saw me and froze. My smile widened. Behind her, another Sentinel rushed in, almost mowing her over. He saw me and whispered, “Seth.” He’d said my name like I was the monster under his bed, and I sort of liked that. Then another Sentinel and another rolled in. The fifth took one look at my interior design work and keeled over. Slamming his hands on his knees, he hurled up his dinner. Nice. Our society existed completely unknown to the average mortal and had operated under what was known as the Breed Order for thousands of years. The Order had been dismantled, which meant halfs were no longer forced to choose between becoming Sentinels—hunting down violent creatures, protecting pures, enforcing laws, and otherwise usually dying pretty damn quickly on the job—or servants, which was a job that really wasn’t a job, but more like slavery. Since then, many pampered pures had signed on to be Sentinels, making up for the loss of the halfs who’d pretty much said “screw this shit, I’m out.” This wasn’t necessarily a good thing. For example, the dumbass puking all over my blood-covered floor was a pure. When he straightened, his face a greenish hue, he backed away, shaking his head. “I can’t,” he gasped out. “I can’t do this.” Then he turned and hauled ass out the doors.
I sighed. This was why we couldn’t have nice things.

THE RETURN Synopsis:

The Fates are cackling their bony asses off... It's been a year since Seth made the deal with the gods that pledged his life to them. And so far, the jobs they've given him have been violent and bloody--which is kind of all right with him. But now Apollo has something else in mind for Seth. He's got to play protector while keeping his hands and fingers off, and for someone who really has a problem with restraint, this new assignment might be the most challenging yet. Josie has no idea what this crazy hot guy's deal might be, but it's a good bet that his arrival means the new life she started after leaving home is about to be thrown into an Olympian-sized blender turned up to puree. Either Josie is going insane or a nightmare straight out of ancient myth is gunning for her. But it might be the unlikely attraction simmering between her and the golden-eyed, secret-keeping Seth that may prove to be the most dangerous thing of all. Because history has once again been flipped to repeat.

BOOK BLITZ~~MEET ME IN THE GARDEN BY ROSA SOPHIA

Meet Me In the Garden by Rosa Sophia
Published by: Limitless Publishing
Publication date: January 20th 2015
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Synopsis

Memories of another life, and the garden where it all began, keep Amalie Jarvis awake at night.

A columnist for a popular magazine, she attends a function in Palm Beach at the famous Breakers Hotel, only to cross paths with graphic designer Ian Gardner—who appears to hold the key to her visions. The more time they spend together, the more Amalie realizes how much she wants to be with him. And how much she fears admitting that she loves him.

Ian can’t remember the past, but he is drawn to Amalie with an intense passion he’s never felt before.

Many moons ago, they met in a garden. Different names, different faces—but their souls were still the same. Unable to resist her, Ian falls deeply in love. He remains by her side as she battles severe facial pain, not knowing what it is or if it could kill her. Frightened for her, he swears his adoration without ever speaking the words.

But their devotion has dangers, and they’re about to be faced by hazards neither of them could have foreseen…

Excerpt

She hadn't had a drink in a long time, in part because of Ian. She was overcome with guilt drinking around him after everything they’d been through. Alcohol repulsed her now, but at the same time it sort of intrigued her. She wanted to let go, forget. Sometimes she wanted to get drunk. The thought upset her, because she didn't want to end up like her father.
He glared at her when she questioned him.
“Don’t treat me like a goddamn child,” he scolded, and she sensed the emergence of the man she feared, the one who harangued her, criticized everything she did, and called her names. In that moment, she wished she hadn’t let him come visit.
Several days later, he stumbled into an end table in the living room and broke a lamp. He found every reason he could to insult Amalie, who sneered in return and stomped back to the bedrooms while her father sat on the couch in the dark pouring shots.
Just before Amalie could reach her own room, a hand snaked out and grabbed her wrist. Ian tugged her into his room and slammed the door shut behind her. He stood so close she could smell his minty breath.
“When. Is. He. Leaving.” His gaze was sharp, edged with displeasure.
“Next week sometime.” Amalie sniffed, holding back tears.
“I’m sick of him, all he does is pick fights with you and criticize you.”
“Ian, that’s not entirely—”
“It is entirely,” he snapped. “What was that he said to you yesterday?”
Amalie slumped on Ian’s bed, sighing. “That I should get a real job. He doesn't think what I do is a real job. I work my ass off.”
“He doesn't appreciate you, Am.”
“This is really upsetting you.” She said it as if she’d only just noticed.
“Damn right it’s upsetting me. Know why?” He sat beside her, appearing defeated. “Because when he screams at you, I see myself. When his eyes are glassy, and he tells you that you’re fat, or that you’re not doing something right—” Ian put his arm around her, drawing her close. “He reminds me of me, Am.” His brow creased, and he seemed to be holding back tears. “I treated you like shit. You put up with it. Just like you put up with him for years.”
Amalie hung her head. “That’s not the same.”
“Yes it is. I was a fucking drunk. Just like your dad. I swear to God, Amalie, I’ll never drink again.”
She felt beaten, exhausted. She’d run out of words, so she said nothing. She merely slipped her hand into his as they listened to her father pounding on the door:
Amalie, open this fucking door. Goddamn it, what’s wrong with you? You never listen to me. You’re such a fucking bitch. Open the fucking door, Amalie.” The knocking turned into slamming.
“Wanna get out of here, baby?” Ian squeezed Amalie’s hand as she wept.
“Yes,” she whispered. “Yes, I do.”

BEST SELLING AUTHOR CALLIE HART "REBEL"~~BOOK TOUR

 Excerpt

“You think you use your brain when you’re having sex?”

Rebel’s pen freezes on the paper. He turns, then, towering over me, my face level with his belt buckle. It’s as though I can literally feel the heat rolling off his body. He’s intimidating and overwhelming, his presence a powerful force to be reckoned with.

“Oh, Sophia. I use my brain. Every time I sleep with a woman, I’m using my head to figure out what she likes. How she likes it. What I can do to have her screaming my name until her throat’s raw.”

Rebel and Sophia's story

The first of a three part series. This novel contains a small snippet which has already been released in the Owned: An Alpha Anthology, however it is followed by a full story installment.

Sophia
Sometimes, you don't mean to become another person. Sometimes the choice is made for you, and pretending is the only thing that keeps you going. When Alexis Romera is taken and her kidnappers find her fake ID in her purse, she must become Sophia in order to keep her family safe. Revealing her real identity to the man she's sold to would be easy enough, but can she trust him? Hell bent on revenging the murder of his uncle, Rebel doesn't seem all that interested in playing things safe. In fact, nothing about the secretive, dark and brooding MC President seems safe at all.

Rebel
What do you do when the man who raised you is murdered, and the only witness is kidnapped girl who's being sold as a sex slave? You buy her, of course. As president to the most powerful motorcycle club in America, Rebel isn't lacking in power. There are strings the man can pull, and entire criminal organizations and corporate businesses alike would fall to their knees. However, along with such power comes intense interest. The DEA have their eye fixed solely on the MC...and they're just waiting for Rebel to trip up. Getting Sophia to testify is the only way to bring the Los Oscuros cartel down. The beautiful, dark haired, dark eyed woman is belligerent and uncooperative and unlikely to bend to his will, but Rebel has a few tricks up his sleeve to make her compliant--he'll charm her until she's bending over backwards to please him. Of course, falling for her might cause a few hiccups along the way...

Vida's Review

This was a new author for me and I must say I really truly enjoyed this book! I wasn't sure at the beginning because it was such a slow start, but it picked up rather quickly and I couldn't keep my eyes off of the pages!

Let me just say that sexy, brooding, dangerous men are my favorite type of book heroes and with Callie's hero, Rebel she nailed it perfectly. He's intensely protective, possessive and a force to be reckoned with. A simple walk to the bus station turns into SO MUCH more in this amazing story. Sex, secrets, and deception is the name of the game. REBEL is chock-full of sizzling chemistry, emotional and passionate interactions, and a dirty talking gorgeous man who is battling his own demons while trying to not fall in love with a woman who seems to be breaking down his walls, brick by brick. The woman in question is Sophia (Alexis) who might come across as mild mannered in the beginning but as the story progresses you see that beneath it all she has a spine of steel. This book ends with a explosive cliffhanger that you WILL NOT be prepared for. It will end with so many questions, and you will not know where people allegiance will lie. You might think you know and long after reading this gripping page turner you still won't be so sure.

This story has superb writing, intense chemistry between the characters, and a suspenseful and emotional story line that holds you in with no hope of letting go. Callie Hart storytelling satisfies us romance reader's every need, every demand, and every fantasy. I can't wait for the next installment of this incredible journey in the world of Rebel and Sophia.

About the Author:

Callie has experienced many changes throughout her life, and gone through many ups and downs that have all worked towards shaping and molding her into the person she is today: fun loving, active, social, and hard working. The only thing that has remained a constant throughout her life is writing. Creating characters who will tear your conscience in two is a favorite pastime of Callie’s. There are few real saints and sinners in her books; more often, the denizens of her stories are all very human. Broken, flawed, and always with the potential for redemption.

Despite the subject matter being markedly hot and heavy in comparison to the stories she wrote in elementary school, there will always be an element of fairy-tale to her work.
